00:06
today we're gonna introduce you to the
00:08
onboard effects processor on the touch
00:10
mix and show you how to use the effects
00:12
wizard to add effects to your
00:14
performance
00:14
audio effects such as reverb chorus
00:17
delay pitch correction and pitch change
00:20
are essential in today's audio
00:22
production the touch mix may just give
00:24
you more effects processing than you've
00:25
ever had before but using effects can be
00:28
intimidating so stick with us because
00:30
the payoff is a professional sounding
00:33
live performance first let's look at the
00:35
architecture of the effects section
00:37
imagine this inside touchmix is a
00:44
virtual equipment warehouse in the
00:46
warehouse there are 24 effects
00:48
processors for chorus processors for
00:51
pitch change processors for dense reverb
00:54
processors for lush reverb processors
00:57
for mono delay processors and for stereo
01:01
delay processors you can choose to use
01:03
any four of these processors in any
01:05
combination to use at any one time each
01:10
of these processors has multiple presets
01:12
the reverb processors for example will
01:14
have presets simulating various sizes of
01:17
rooms and halls as well as reverb plates
01:19
there may also be brighter or darker
01:21
sounding variations and presets with
01:24
longer or shorter reverb times we can
01:26
send a signal from any of the inputs to
01:29
any effects processors once the
01:31
processor has done its job by adding the
01:33
wet sound that's what we call the sound
01:36
that's been processed through the effect
01:37
it can be blended back with the dry
01:39
unaffected sound from the inputs and
01:42
says onto the mixers outputs now that we
01:44
have a feel for how the effects works
01:46
let's talk about what you're gonna use
01:47
them for let's say that you have a large
01:50
band with a sax player some vocalists
01:53
and a fully mic - drum kit in this
01:55
example we're gonna use the factory
01:57
default presets now don't be afraid to
01:59
use these we designed them to be useful
02:01
in a lot of different situations now in
02:04
this hypothetical band the lead vocalist
02:06
will be sent to a 250 millisecond delay
02:08
that we'll be mixing at a low level to
02:11
provide a bit of thickening
02:14
six uh rhythm a Nassau horns and all the
02:18
vocals will be given a bit of space in a
02:20
medium hall reverb
02:27
the snare and Tom's are all going to
02:29
have a medium plate reverb applied to
02:31
the plate reverb is a go to effect for
02:38
drums in a live sound environment note
02:40
that you can send a channel to more than
02:42
one effect our sax is also being sent to
02:45
a pitch shift effect with a light
02:47
detuned preset this will provide a
02:49
subtle doubling other instruments don't
02:56
need effects or they have their own
02:57
effects like guitar pedals or internal
03:00
effects on a keyboard so we're gonna
03:01
leave those dry so now you understand
03:04
the touch mix effects and you thought
03:05
about what to do with the effects let's
03:08
talk about the how there are several
03:10
ways to select and send up the effects
03:12
on the touch mix today we're gonna focus
03:15
on the fastest and easiest method which
03:17
is the effects wizard and much like the
03:19
channel presets or pretty much anything
03:22
else you find on the touch mix the
03:24
effects wizard is designed to help you
03:26
get the most out of your live
03:27
performance so let's say that you need
03:29
to add some reverb to a tom drum now you
03:32
don't know which one is the best for
03:34
your scenario
03:35
well the wizard helps you out with that
03:36
let me show you what we mean start by
03:39
pressing wizard then effects wizard
03:41
pause the software screens you're about
03:44
to see were filmed on a previous version
03:46
of the firmware if you're using version
03:48
3.0 or higher then the graphics you'll
03:50
see on your screen will look a little
03:52
newer you'll see more options and more
03:53
features than the software you see in
03:55
this video don't worry the process we're
03:59
gonna show you is exactly the same even
04:01
if some of the buttons don't end up
04:02
being the exact same place on the screen
04:04
alright let's go
04:06
if this is your first time using the
04:09
effects wizard the mixer will default to
04:11
FX processor 1 select a preset by using
04:14
the source type and FX style windows to
04:17
choose an effect you'll notice that not
04:20
all the reverb types in the touch mix
04:22
are available for selection just the
04:24
ones they're most relevant and
04:25
appropriate for the selected source so
04:28
just like the previous example where we
04:30
selected a plate reverb for the Tom's
04:32
you'll see the plate reverb is available
04:34
for use here while Hall reverb an effect
04:37
that might muddy up the drums in a mix
04:39
is not pretty smart right use the master
04:42
encoder to scroll up and down the list
04:44
or drag on-screen to see all the
04:46
selections touch recall once you've made
04:49
a choice and confirm the preset name
04:51
will be displayed below the type window
04:53
the preset has now been loaded and now
04:56
it's time to send audio to effects 1 on
04:58
your mixer just decide which channels
05:01
you want the effect to apply to and
05:03
touch the corresponding button under
05:05
select inputs to feed the selected
05:08
channels are now feeding the effects
05:09
processor the moment you've selected an
05:12
input it is automatically sent to the
05:14
effects processor and returned again all
05:16
at a nominal level you don't have to
05:18
adjust anything else now is your
05:21
performer gonna want to hear effects in
05:23
his stage monitor well if so that's easy
05:25
to do just select the buttons under
05:28
select aux outputs to tell your mixer
05:30
where the effects should go if you find
05:33
that you'd like to change the level of
05:34
the effect you can use the master
05:36
effects fader here you've still got
05:38
three effects available so touch one of
05:40
the tabs on the top of the screen to set
05:42
up another effect and that's it you've
05:45
setup all your effects and here's one
05:47
more tip the touch mix has an FX mute
05:50
button you can use it to mute all the
05:53
effects at the same time this is really
05:54
useful if the singer is talking between
05:57
songs and you don't want to hear the
05:59
reverb and delay on his speech we're
06:01
gonna use it right now to demonstrate
06:02
the difference that effects have on a
06:04
mix
06:13
that's it for this installment if you
06:15
wanna dive even further into effects
06:17
check out our next installment advanced
06:19
effects we'll see you then
