Simple vs. Advanced Mode
Video Transcript
0:08
Welcome to another installment of the TouchMix Training Series.
0:11
In this video we’ll talk about the difference between Advanced and Simple Modes.
0:15
Understanding the difference between these two modes will help you achieve great results quickly.
0:20
Advanced and Simple Modes are available on a variety of mixer functions,
0:23
including gates, compressor, EQ, FX and more.
0:27
Simple and Advanced Modes cater to all different kinds of users, and their varying experience with mixing.
0:33
Advanced Mode gives you full control over a given function,
0:36
while Simple Mode hides and condenses certain controls to make it easier and faster to use.
0:42
Let me give you an example. Let’s take a look at just one of the functions of the mixer.
0:47
Let’s say, Compression, for example.
0:50
In Advanced Mode, you have access to all of these parameters to control compression.
0:55
But to understand the value of Simple Mode,
0:58
let’s assume that you’re like me and that you have a basic understanding of compression
1:03
but you don’t know how to control all of these parameters.
1:06
A tap of the Simple button streamlines this process into a few intuitive controls
1:12
while hiding the rest of the controls in the background.
1:16
Changing between the two modes is easy, and it only affects the controls on the page you’re working on.
1:21
You can keep one page on Advanced Mode and others on Simple,
1:24
and the mixer will remember your preference as you navigate between them.
1:28
If you prefer to change all the screen globally across the entire mixer,
1:31
just hit he Menu button and select which mode you want to screens to default to.
1:36
You can still adjust them manually when you’re on any given screen,
1:39
but this lets you quickly put all of them into one state or the other.
1:42
And that’s pretty much all there is to it.
1:43
You can adjust an EQ screen from 14 knobs to 4 knobs,
1:48
depending on how comfortable you are with adjusting EQ.
1:51
And your compressor simplifies down to one general purpose control, and the same thing for the gate.
1:58
And your FX sends can give you a lot of specificity or just one master control.
2:03
So whether you use it to keep things simple or to make basic tasks even faster,
2:08
the Simple Mode is a great way to customize your mixer based on your user experience and needs.
2:13
And Advanced Mode allows you to get that precise sound that will satisfy even the most seasoned engineer.
2:19
And remember: just because you’re changing from Advanced Mode to Simple Mode
2:23
doesn’t mean that you lose the values of any settings that are hidden in Simple Mode.
2:27
In the next installment we’re going to go over Presets,
2:30
and you’ll see how those interact in Simple Mode and Advanced Mode.
2:33
See you next time.
